Frequently Asked Questions
-
Court and tribunal hearings, records of interview, and other professional recordings. Our focus is transcripts that go on a file that matters: material that will be read back, relied on, or put before a decision maker. We take private and commercial work as well, on the same terms.
-
Yes, we can transcribe hearings of the New South Wales Civil and Administrative Tribunal, across its divisions, for parties, representatives and other users of the Tribunal. NCAT work is handled on the same terms as everything else we do: typed and checked by a person in Australia, held in Australia, and produced without generative AI or speech to text.
-
For some jobs it is the right tool. If you want a record of a client meeting or a file note, an application that records and transcribes it will do that job well and at low cost, and we would not try to talk you out of it.
The distinction is what happens to the transcript afterwards. A transcript that goes before a court or tribunal has to stand up to being read against the recording, by someone who has an interest in finding the error. Automated transcription does not reliably separate speakers talking over each other, does not catch an unfamiliar name or a case citation, and gives no sign when it has guessed. It returns a fluent transcript with mistakes buried inside it, which is harder to catch than an obvious gap.
Every Writ&Folio transcript is typed and checked by a person, to an evidentiary verbatim standard, and certified before it is delivered. That is the work we do.
-
Experienced Australian court transcriptionists and checkers, drawn from a managed roster, with capacity confirmed for each engagement. No work is sent offshore and no part of it is automated. Our director has more than nine years with a national transcription provider, coordinating and delivering daily transcript to same day deadlines across multiple courts and jurisdictions.
-
No person receives client material until three things are done: a National Criminal History Check is obtained, a deed of confidentiality is executed, and our policy suite is acknowledged.
-
Recordings and transcripts are held only in Australia. Our permanent records, including client material, are stored in Australian data centres, in a cloud tenancy we administer, with access restricted to people who have met the requirements described above. No work is sent offshore, and no transcription is outsourced to another company

You receive a secure upload link and send the audio through it. The agreed turnaround starts when the audio reaches us. The transcript comes back as a Word document in intelligent verbatim with each speaker identified, delivered by the nominated time on the channel you choose. Full verbatim, timestamps at an interval you set, and typing to your own template are all available.
-
Same day where the audio reaches us before 11am, next business day, three business days, or ten business days. Where a matter genuinely needs it, we can return a transcript within hours of receiving the audio: that is quoted separately, so ask when you make the enquiry. All standard times run in business days from the receipt of audio, and the turnaround is agreed before work starts.
-
For private and commercial work we charge per minute of recorded audio, so the length of the recording is the main driver. The rate depends on how quickly you need it back, with the longer turnarounds costing less, and it is adjusted for the number of speakers, difficult audio, interpreted proceedings, timestamps and full verbatim. Small flat fees apply for typing to your own template or a certificate of transcript. A minimum fee of $60, excluding GST, applies to each transcript.
Court and tribunal work is charged on a different basis, depending on the jurisdiction and the material.
Ask us and we will gladly send you our current rate card. Either way you receive a written quotation before anything starts, and a request received before 2pm on a business day is quoted the same business day. There are no charges you have not seen in writing first.
-
Only the people cleared to work on it, each of whom is bound by deed and holds a current criminal history check. We hold client material for our client and use it only to do the work we were engaged to do. Files are kept only as long as the engagement requires and are securely deleted at the end of that period, or earlier if you ask, unless a court direction, subpoena, suppression order or notified dispute requires us to keep them.

As a small business we would ordinarily be exempt from most of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We have chosen not to rely on that exemption. We registered with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner to be treated as an organisation under the Act, which means we are bound by the Australian Privacy Principles and you can complain to the OAIC about how we handle your information.
